Back Lane

Over 40 footpaths in the parish of Morchard Bishop with 'Back Lane' being yards from the cottage. Laminated maps of 10 walks provided. The famous 2 Moors Way passes through the village.                                                                                             

 

Eggesford Forest - way marked trails 10 minutes away.   Railway walks from the stations on the Tarka line.  Dartmoor, Okehampton, Torrington (Tarka Trail), Exmoor and South Molton, are all only 30 minutes away. 

 

Tiverton canal                                                                     

Tiverton and Exeter canals are only 30 minutes away.

Coasts and beaches

Croyde

Devon has a diverse selection of coastal areas with steep cliffs, inlets and coves and fishing harbours.  The North Devon coast with its long sandy beaches and perfect waves are ideal for water and land sports. Beaches include Saunton, Croyde, Woollacombe, Puttsborough and Westward Ho. The South coast  has a mixture of sandy pebble beaches with piers and harbours. Beaches include Exmouth (the train goes direct from the station at Morchard Road), Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Dawlish Warren, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Torquay and Paignton.

Archaeological  Sites                                                                                                Devon can boast, in Kent's Cavern, Torquay, one of the earliest human settlements in Europe. Extensive remains of later prehistoric landscapes survive on Dartmoor and Exmoor, e.g. Kestor on Dartmoor (Bronze Age settlement) and Cow's castle near Simonsbath on Exmoor ( an Iron Age fortification). The city of Exeter was at the heart of Roman occupation in Devon with a fortress established there in about 50AD. Also worth a visit in Exeter is the Cathedral, underground passages, historic quay, museum and catacombs.
