Rudge Rew is an ideal central base being situated in the peaceful, rural countryside of the Devonshire heartland with all the corners of Devon being accessible. Devon is a county rich in archaeological and historic sites and landscapes which enables you to enjoy the extremes of beautiful scenery from the rugged moors, the varied farmland, wooded valleys and the diverse coastal areas (golden sands, pebble beaches, steep cliffs, surf and the many inlets and coves).

Our nearest town, Crediton (a small country town) is 8 miles away and was the birthplace of St. Boniface in 680AD. We are only 15 miles from Exeter and 25 miles from the North Devon Town of Barnstaple. The Tarka railway line runs between these towns and there are stations at Lapford and Morchard Road which are only a 5 minute drive away.

Devon can boast, in Kent's Cavern, Torquay, one of the earliest human settlements in Europe. Extensive remains of later prehistoric landscapes survive on Dartmoor and Exmoor, e.g. Kestor on Dartmoor (Bronze Age settlement) and Cow's castle near Simonsbath on Exmoor ( an Iron Age fortification). The city of Exeter was at the heart of Roman occupation in Devon with a fortress established there in about 50AD. Also worth a visit in Exeter is the Cathedral, underground passages, historic quay, museum and catacombs.

There is a great variety of attractions to visit to suit all tastes including historic castles and houses, gardens, waterfalls, animal centres, adventure parks, industry centres and boat trips. There is a wide range of leaflets in the cottages to help you make the most of your holiday.

Directions to the Property

From Exeter take the A377 Barnstaple road to Crediton. Alternatively leave the M5 at Junction 27 to Tiverton, then the A396 Exeter road as far as Bickleigh when you join the A3072 Crediton road. At Crediton join the A377 towards Barnstaple. When you pall through Copplestone keep to the A377 towards Barnstaple. Approximately two miles after the first turning to Morchard Bishop and the "Devonshire Dumpling" there is a small right hand turning to Morchard Bishop. The farm is one mile along this lane with the holiday cottage on the left.

Alternatively take the first turning to Morchard Bishop and go straight through the village keeping the Post Office on your right. When you come to the fork in the road (1/4 mile from the village) keep to the left. The farm is now approximately 3/4 mile further on with Rudge Rew Cottage being on the right just after the farm buildings.
